Why materials matter

Lighter, tougher,
longer flight life

As drones get lighter and more energy efficient, adhesives replace fasteners, and every board, battery and sensor must survive vibration, heat, moisture and UV.
Thermal management
Silicone RTVs and thermally conductive adhesives move heat away from batteries, ESCs and boards across a wide temperature range.
Vibration & stress reduction
Flexible materials secure components and absorb impact and vibration from motors and propellers.
Weatherproofing
Low-shrinkage silicones seal cases, gaskets and connectors and protect PCBs with long-term adhesion.
Lightweight structural bonding
Toughened epoxies and acrylics bond carbon fibre, metals and plastics while spreading stress evenly.
Sensor & display optics
Hardcoats protect polycarbonate lenses and improve LIDAR transmission; InvisiSil optically clear silicones make rugged, sunlight-readable displays.
Low outgassing
Silicones that meet or exceed ASTM E595 protect optics and sensors from volatile contamination at high altitude.

FAQ

Questions about drone adhesives

Which adhesive should I use to bond a carbon-fibre drone frame?

Toughened two-part epoxies give the best balance of strength and peel resistance on carbon fibre and composites. Permabond ET5428 cures in 30–45 minutes for fast production, ET5429 gives a longer pot life for large assemblies, ET5422 has the highest peel strength (30–38 N/mm² shear on steel) and ET5424 withstands up to 230 °C.

How do I bond magnets in drone motors?

Permabond TA4590 with Initiator 44 fixtures in 30–60 seconds without mixing, TA437 with Initiator 41 handles up to 200 °C, and ES566 is a one-part heat-cure epoxy that needs no mixing and cures in 10 minutes at 150 °C.

What materials help manage heat in drone batteries and electronics?

Momentive thermal adhesives TN3085/88 and XE11-B5320, TIA208R battery potting, TIA241GF gap filler and LTR3292 thermal adhesive move heat away from cells and boards. Permabond ET5441 and MT3836 are thermally conductive adhesives; MT3836 is also fire-retardant.

How can I waterproof drone connectors and enclosures?

Momentive TN3305 is designed for waterproofing pin connectors, and TSE397 is a non-corrosive sealant that is safe near metal contacts. For enclosure and O-ring sealing use room-temperature-cure RTV silicones such as the RTV100 series, TN3005, TN5015 or TN8000, which resist UV and ozone.

What is ASTM E595 low outgassing and why does it matter for drones?

ASTM E595 measures how much volatile material a cured material releases under vacuum and heat. Low-outgassing silicones such as Momentive LTR3292 reduce the risk of vapours fogging lenses or contaminating sensors at high altitude.

Which adhesive bonds camera lenses on a gimbal?

Permabond UV639 cures in 5–10 seconds under a 70 W UV lamp and forms a hard, clear bond for camera lenses. For sealing and protecting sensors, Momentive TSE3051 gel and TSE322 sealant are commonly used.

Can these adhesives bond 3D-printed and low-surface-energy plastics?

Permabond TA4550 and TA4551 acrylics bond nylon, plastics, metals and composites, and 712 cyanoacrylate bonds printed parts in about 25 seconds. For polypropylene and polyethylene, PROSTECH can advise on a primer or surface treatment.
