LOCTITE 243 is a medium-strength anaerobic threadlocker. It reliably locks and seals threaded fasteners. This prevents loosening and leakage from shock and vibration. It ensures robust performance in demanding industrial environments.
General Information of LOCTITE 243
This product utilizes acrylic technology, specifically a dimethacrylate ester chemical type. It presents as a distinctive blue liquid in its uncured state. Furthermore, it exhibits positive fluorescence under UV light, aiding inspection. LOCTITE 243 is a one-component system, requiring no prior mixing. Its medium, thixotropic viscosity ensures controlled application. The product cures anaerobically, meaning it hardens when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces in the absence of air. Secondary cure can be accelerated with an activator.
The thixotropic nature of LOCTITE 243 reduces the migration of liquid product after application to the substrate. This formulation provides robust curing performance. It works effectively on active metals, such as brass and copper. Moreover, it performs reliably on passive substrates like stainless steel and plated surfaces. The product offers high temperature performance and excellent oil tolerance. It tolerates minor surface contaminations from various industrial oils, including cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion, and protection fluids. This product is also registered to NSF Category P1 for use as a sealant where no food contact is possible, and certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 61 for potable water systems up to 82°C.
Key Features & Technical Benefits
- Medium Strength: Facilitates normal disassembly using standard hand tools. This avoids damage to components during routine maintenance.
- Anaerobic Cure Mechanism: Cures effectively when confined between close-fitting metal surfaces. This ensures a secure, permanent bond in the absence of air.
- Thixotropic Formulation: Reduces the migration of the liquid product after application. Consequently, it maintains precise placement on the substrate.
- Broad Substrate Compatibility: Provides robust curing performance on both active metals like brass and copper. Furthermore, it performs reliably on passive substrates such as stainless steel and plated surfaces.
- Enhanced Tolerance: Tolerates minor surface contaminations from various industrial oils. These include cutting, lubrication, anti-corrosion, and protection fluids.
Typical Industrial Applications
This formulation is engineered for the following applications:
- Locking and sealing threaded fasteners requiring routine disassembly.
- Preventing loosening and leakage in assemblies subjected to shock and vibration.
- Securing components in commercial and residential potable water systems (certified to ANSI/NSF Standard 61).
- Applications requiring high temperature performance and oil tolerance.
