Product Introduction
3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9844 is a two-part epoxy adhesive that provides robust bonding, high impact resistance, and excellent mechanical properties to prepared substrates such as aluminum and carbon fiber composites. It is designed for use in automotive chassis and primary structures, as well as battery-to-structure assemblies. This adhesive offers controlled flow rheology optimized for injection joints, enabling clean assemblies and efficient processing.
3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9844 cures fully at room temperature, allowing for energy savings by eliminating the need for high-temperature curing. However, for faster curing, elevated temperatures between 60–80°C can be applied, depending on cycle time and heating method. Options such as thermal induction and localized spot curing provide additional flexibility for fixturing and geo-fixing where necessary.
This adhesive ensures consistent performance and reliable bonding strength across varying process conditions, enabling a stable and repeatable manufacturing process. It helps OEMs reduce or potentially replace heavy mechanical fasteners like welds, nuts, and bolts, assisting in vehicle weight management. Furthermore, it is compatible with automatic dispensing systems, allowing for quick cycle times and streamlined production. Parts bonded with this adhesive remain stable for storage and transport, with a shelf life of up to 12 months.
3M also offers assistance with injection joint design, supporting the development of new injection joints or the conversion of existing nodal structural joints to injection joints for optimized performance.
