Product Introduction
3M™ UV Activated Film 81050 is a UV-activated and curable film with semi-structural strength but handles like a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA). Delivered between two polyester silicone release liners, this clear, slightly yellow film creates precise bonds with very little shrinkage while ensuring good bond line visual appearance. With the added benefits of good shear strength, high modulus, and a thin profile, 3M™ UV Activated Film 81050 is a robust alternative to traditional bonding methods.
3M™ UV Activated Films and Tapes combine the benefits of three different bonding technologies into one powerful adhesive. They provide stronger bonds than standard tapes; they’re easier to apply than liquid adhesives; and they activate with light, unlike heat-activated films. Prior to UV activation, these films and tapes are stable and tacky at room temperature and can be easily converted into precision die-cut parts. Once activated, bond strength develops at room temperature, achieving green strength within an hour and semi-structural bond strength within 24 hours. These properties make them an ideal choice for bonding small components where high temperatures and pressures are a concern. Specifically, 3M™ UV Activated Films and Tapes are an excellent option for applications such as laptop track pads, fingerprint sensors, smartphone front cameras, automotive displays, enclosure bonding, heat-sensitive components, and more.
3M™ UV Activated Film 81050 Features
- Stronger bonds than tapes; easier to apply than liquid adhesives; activated with light rather than heat
- Processes and performs like a pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) before UV activation, including the ability to die cut for thin precision bonding
- Achieves green strength within an hour and full bond at room temperature within 24 hours following UV activation
- Bonds with very low shrinkage and provides good bond line visual appearance
- Creates excellent bond strength on most medium and high surface energy materials
- Delivered in dual-linered configuration: clear, 38 μm PET front liner and clear, 50 μm anti-static PET back liner
- Film thickness: 50 μm
3M™ UV Activated Film 81050 Applications
- Bonding small components such as laptop track pads
- Fingerprint sensors and smartphone front cameras
- Automotive display assemblies
- Enclosure bonding in electronics
- Bonding heat-sensitive components
- Applications requiring strong yet low-temperature-processed adhesives
