Product Introduction
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2815 B/A FR is a white, flexible, two-part, room-temperature curing epoxy adhesive designed for high shear and peel strength in demanding aerospace applications. It maintains excellent bond strength at both low and elevated temperatures and withstands challenging environmental conditions.
This high-performance adhesive is ideal for honeycomb sandwich constructions typically found in aircraft interiors, such as galley structures, luggage bins, partition walls, lavatory structures, crew rest compartments, seating structures, ceiling panels, closets, stowage compartments, sidewall panels, cargo bay panels, bar units, coatrooms, and passenger doors. Its white color and smooth finish allow it to blend seamlessly with white laminates.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2815 B/A FR meets industry flame-retardant requirements and offers outstanding vibration resistance. It is an effective replacement for mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets, and spot welds, and it bonds to a wide range of substrates including metals and many plastics. It is available in bulk and duo-pak cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System, allowing for minimal waste and professional application. The adhesive has a 2:1 mix ratio, offers a 60-minute work life for adjustments, reaches handling strength in about 4 hours, and fully cures within 24 hours at 72°F (22°C); cure time can be accelerated with heat.

What Are Epoxy Adhesives?
3M™ epoxy adhesives belong to the class of structural adhesives, which also includes polyurethane and acrylic adhesives. These adhesives are formulated with reactive components (Base and Accelerator) that, when mixed, cure to form a durable solid plastic material. 3M offers epoxy adhesives in various formats to suit different processing needs:
- Two-Part: The Base and Accelerator are stored separately to extend shelf life. Available in duo-pak cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System, these adhesives can also be purchased in bulk. They allow for precise metering and mixing at the point of use, minimizing waste.
- One-Part: Pre-mixed and shipped frozen, these adhesives are stored in a freezer and thawed before use.
- Adhesive Films: Pre-mixed and processed into films, these adhesives are designed to be cut to size and applied directly to the bond line. They require frozen storage and are clean and easy to use.
Once mixed, two-part adhesives begin curing immediately, offering a limited work time for application and positioning. Similarly, one-part adhesives have a limited “out time” after thawing before they must be applied. This work time or out time can range from minutes to over 48 hours, depending on the formulation.
Epoxy adhesives provide excellent shear and peel strength along with superior environmental resistance, making them suitable for applications requiring high durability and strength. Their versatility allows for formulations that are flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, quick or slow setting, and suitable for either room temperature or elevated temperature cures. They are widely used in demanding industries due to their exceptional bonding performance.
