Product Introduction
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2214 Hi-Density is a frozen, one-part, tough, elevated-temperature curing epoxy adhesive that delivers high shear and peel strength, making it ideal for the most demanding aerospace applications. It maintains excellent bond strength at both low and elevated temperatures, while withstanding challenging environments, including hot and wet conditions.
This high-performance adhesive is an effective alternative to mechanical fasteners, screws, rivets, and spot welds. It bonds a wide variety of substrates, including metals and many plastics. Available in cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System, it ensures minimal waste and professional results. The adhesive offers a two-day out time, allowing sufficient flexibility for thawing and application before curing. It fully cures in 40 minutes at 250°F (121°C) and can be accelerated to cure in just 10 minutes at 350°F (177°C).
Formulated with aluminum for enhanced heat handling and improved conductivity, this adhesive features a deaerated formula that provides dense, void-free bond lines, resulting in superior bonding performance in critical applications.

What Are Epoxy Adhesives?
3M™ epoxy adhesives are part of the structural adhesives category, which also includes polyurethane and acrylic adhesives. These adhesives are formulated with reactive components (Base and Accelerator) that cure to form durable, solid plastic materials. 3M offers epoxy adhesives in multiple formats to suit various application needs:
- Two-Part: Base and Accelerator stored separately, offering long shelf life. These adhesives are available in duo-pak cartridges for use with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System or in bulk for large-scale operations, allowing precise mixing at the point of use and reducing waste.
- One-Part: Pre-mixed, frozen adhesives that are stored in freezers and thawed when ready for use, requiring no further mixing.
- Adhesive Films: Pre-mixed and converted into films for direct placement into bond lines, available in various thicknesses and weights. These films are stored frozen for clean, efficient application.
Once mixed or thawed, epoxy adhesives offer a limited working time for application and positioning. Depending on the formulation, this work life or out time may range from a few minutes to more than 48 hours.
Epoxy adhesives are widely recognized for their high shear and peel strength, excellent environmental and chemical resistance, and superior mechanical durability. They can be formulated to offer various properties, including flexibility or rigidity, transparency or opacity, fast or slow setting, and compatibility with room temperature or elevated temperature curing. These characteristics make epoxy adhesives ideal for demanding structural bonding applications across industries.
