Product Introduction
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2214 is a frozen, one-part, elevated-temperature curing epoxy adhesive designed to deliver high shear and peel strength, making it ideal for demanding aerospace applications. It maintains its bond strength under both low and elevated temperatures and performs well in challenging environmental conditions, including hot and wet environments.
This adhesive offers high temperature resistance, smooth bond lines, and superior durability. It is a 100% solids, one-part adhesive that cures at 250°F (121°C) and is specifically designed for bonding metals and high-temperature plastics such as fiberglass reinforced plastics, polyester, and phenolics. It is available in cartridges for easy dispensing and requires no mixing, simplifying the application process.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Epoxy Adhesive EC-2214 features a two-day out time, allowing ample flexibility for thawing and application prior to curing. Its aluminum-filled formula enhances heat resistance and conductivity, while the deaerated version provides exceptionally dense, void-free bond lines. This pliable paste can be applied via spatula, trowel, or flow equipment to meet specific project needs.

What Are Epoxy Adhesives?
3M™ epoxy adhesives belong to the structural adhesives category, alongside polyurethane and acrylic adhesives. These adhesives are formulated with reactive components (Base and Accelerator) that cure to form strong, durable solid plastic materials. 3M offers epoxy adhesives in several formats to suit diverse manufacturing and assembly processes:
- Two-Part: Base and Accelerator stored separately for extended shelf life. These adhesives are available in duo-pak cartridges compatible with the 3M™ EPX™ Applicator System or in bulk for large-scale operations, enabling precise metering and mixing at the point of use while minimizing waste.
- One-Part: Pre-mixed and shipped frozen, these adhesives require freezing until needed. After thawing, they can be applied directly without additional mixing, simplifying the workflow.
- Adhesive Films: Pre-mixed and processed into film form, these adhesives are designed to be cut to size and placed directly into bond lines. They are stored frozen and offer clean, easy application in various industrial processes.
Once mixed or thawed, epoxy adhesives offer a limited working time for positioning and application. Depending on the formulation, work life or out time may range from a few minutes to more than 48 hours.
Epoxy adhesives are known for their high shear and peel strength, excellent environmental resistance, and strong mechanical and chemical properties. They can be formulated to be flexible or rigid, transparent or opaque, quick or slow setting, and compatible with either room temperature or elevated temperature curing. These adhesives are among the most durable and reliable bonding solutions available, making them ideal for demanding structural applications.
