Product Introduction
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 3113-5M, .030 wt, 36 in x 50 yds, 1 Roll/Case
Excellent for surfacing graphite composites by providing a smooth, void-free surface, this product bonds pre-cured graphite composites effectively. It co-cures and is compatible with most graphite epoxy composites, curing at temperatures as low as 225°F (107°C). It offers excellent performance over a wide temperature range, from -67°F (-55°C) to 300°F (149°C), and is resistant to high-moisture environments before and after curing.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 3113-5 is a supported, one-side tacky, thermosetting film adhesive designed for the structural bonding of metals, epoxy-graphite composites, and honeycomb. It provides improved high-temperature performance compared to conventional 250°F (121°C) curing film adhesives.
Ready to Fly: This adhesive film offers excellent performance with easy shop handling properties, meeting a range of needs without excessive material costs. It provides a reliable, long-term bond for composites and metals in both solid panel and honeycomb sandwich fabrications, and it is also suitable for composite surfacing. Additionally, it is compatible with multiple substrates and primers, and exhibits excellent pre-bond humidity performance on composite substrates.
The following 3M primers are compatible with AF 3113-5:
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesives Primer EW 5000
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesives Primer EW 5000 AS
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesives Primer EW 5000 ET
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesives Primer EC 3917
- 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesives Primer EC 3924 B
This heat-curing, easy-to-handle film is engineered to meet numerous customer specifications in aerospace manufacturing. It delivers high fracture toughness and peel strength under various environmental conditions and is easy to work with. Once cured, it provides high bond strength from -67°F to 300°F (-55°C to 150°C), making it ideal for challenging designs across diverse environments.
What is Structural Adhesive Film?
Structural adhesive films reduce the need for rivets in aircraft, allowing designers to create more innovative, lightweight parts. These thermosetting modified epoxy films can bond a wide variety of substrates, including metal, honeycomb, and composite materials. Available in various weights and thicknesses, they minimize weight while preserving structural integrity.
Structural adhesive films are offered in supported versions for monolithic bonding or honeycomb sandwich applications and unsupported versions for reticulation onto honeycomb. These films can be cured at temperatures ranging from 180°F to 350°F. They are less messy and more efficient than paste adhesives, eliminating the need for mixing and simplifying the bonding process.
3M is on the Leading Edge of Innovation
Adhesive bonding allows for lighter structural designs by enabling the use of advanced lightweight composites instead of traditional metals. Structural adhesive films are widely used to bond metal to composite, providing excellent erosion resistance while minimizing weight.
