Product Introduction
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive Film AF 15 is an unsupported nitrile-phenolic adhesive film supplied with a protective liner. This 3 mil thick, orange-colored adhesive film is engineered to deliver long-term durability and address specific bonding challenges in metal-to-metal bonded structures. It is formulated to offer maximum elevated temperature strength while maintaining flexibility, peel resistance, and low-temperature properties. The adhesive cures at 350°F (175°C) and produces exceptional strength characteristics with very short cure cycles. It is also similar in composition to 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Bonding Film AF 31.

What is Structural Adhesive Film?
Structural adhesive films help reduce the need for mechanical fasteners such as rivets, allowing for lighter, more innovative designs in aerospace and other industries. These thermosetting modified epoxy films are suitable for bonding a variety of substrates, including metals, honeycomb cores, and composites. They are available in multiple weights and thicknesses, enabling structural integrity while minimizing weight.
The films are offered in supported versions for monolithic bonding or honeycomb sandwich structures, as well as unsupported versions for reticulation onto honeycomb. These films can be cured at temperatures ranging from 180°F to 350°F. They are easier and cleaner to use than traditional paste adhesives, eliminating the need for mixing and improving production efficiency.
3M is on the Leading Edge of Innovation:
Adhesive bonding enables the use of lightweight composites in place of heavier metallic materials. Structural adhesive films are essential for bonding metal to composite materials, offering excellent erosion resistance and contributing to lighter, more efficient designs.
