Product Introduction
3M™ Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive (IRSA) is specifically formulated for true automotive OEM-specified structural bonding applications, delivering excellent impact resistance for collision absorption in steel structures and advanced lightweight aluminum alloys. This two-part epoxy adhesive offers extended work times of up to 1 hour and can be heat-cured quickly. It dispenses in a silver color and changes to purple as it cures, providing a clear visual indicator of the curing process.
Engineered to withstand significantly higher impacts than traditional bonding adhesives, 3M™ IRSA adheres to properly prepared automotive substrates such as mild steel, high-strength steel, and aluminum alloys—critical as OEMs increasingly utilize lightweight structures for high-strength vehicle designs. It is suitable for weld-bonded and rivet-bonded joints as specified by OEM standards. The adhesive cures in as little as 30 minutes at 80°C (175°F) when heat is applied.
3M™ IRSA is designed for optimal impact resistance and enhanced torsional rigidity in OEM automotive structures. It allows for spot welding in its uncured state for up to three hours after application. Once fully cured, it provides lifetime corrosion protection, seals joints against environmental exposure, and helps reduce noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) inside the vehicle.
The adhesive is available in 200 mL cartridges for smaller jobs and 450 mL cartridges compatible with the 3M™ Dynamic Mixing System (DMS). This system simplifies the adhesive mixing process using pre-loaded cartridges and mixing nozzles, ensuring consistent mix quality while reducing waste and cleanup time. Adhesive can be dispensed using the 3M™ Dynamic Mixing Gun (PN 05846) along with the 3M™ DMS Mixing Nozzle (PN 55847).
With decades of adhesive innovation, 3M continues to lead in developing high-performance bonding solutions. 3M™ Impact Resistant Structural Adhesive represents this legacy, offering long-term strength, torsional rigidity, and corrosion protection, making it an ideal solution for modern automotive collision repairs.
